Sugar & spice and everything nice…that’s what true southern girls are made of…well at least that’s what makes up the good parts of us. Some of us have a little vinegar too! 🙂
When do southern girls start learning to bake? When we are tall enough to stand on a step stool and help MawMaw stir the batter! This is a very important part of baking, at least she would have us believe it 🙂 Boy how times have changed. I can still remember not being afraid to lick the spoon, or the bowl or drinking out of water hoses and all kinds of real dangerous stuff like that…those were the days!
Fall is here and all I can think about is baking. Pie is definitely high on the list right now so I decided to post a basic, homemade pie crust recipe from AmyintheKitchen.com that can also be prepared with regular flour instead of gluten free flour. More and more people are starting to eat less wheat because of gluten allergies. In the south that’s not a good thing because we use flour for just about everything! So if you’re not allergic to wheat go ahead and just use all purpose flour instead of gluten free flour. This crust can be used for any kind of pie so put it in your baking recipe arsenal.
Now go bake some pie because pie is not just a southern thing (even though we’d like to think it is). Pie makes people happy!
